Gasharu Central Washing Station is located in the Nyamasheke District of Rwanda’s Western Province and is managed by Valentin Kimenyi. The station helps its contributing farmers work as a unified group, supporting them with resources and infrastructure.
In the original listing, Valentin described year-round small-group meetings with farmers to discuss life, farming challenges, and opportunities. His father Celestin contributes years of farming and processing experience, while Valentin brings both practical experience and academic training as an agronomist. Processing is carried out by younger coffee farmers, and sorting provides additional income for older farmers, mainly women.
This Bourbon was one of Gasharu’s experimental “intego,” or “resolution,” lots. Their coffee-harvest resolutions focus on improving quality through innovative processing while promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices. Our original listing recorded a score of 89 points for this offering.
Compared with other Rwandan coffees previously on our menu, this release offered a more syrupy cup, with cherry, mango, and the refreshing character of a sweet Arnold Palmer iced tea. Sparkling acidity made it especially juicy and refreshing.
