Our Education Department's Training Lab — located in our Ferndale Cafe & Headquarters at 927 Hilton Rd. — is now open to the public for one-on-one guided training. This is a chance to sharpen your espresso preparation skills or get some reps on latte art. Are you training for a throw down or competition? Do you want the chance to use a Slayer espresso machine? Or do you just need some one-on-one time with DOCR's Education Department to hone in on your at-home brewing methods?

WHAT ARE OPEN LAB HOURS?
Whether you’re brand new to coffee or already have barista experience, our guided one-on-one lab sessions are designed to meet you where you are and help you build confidence in both new and existing skills. If you’re looking for additional training in coffee theory, brewing methods, machinery, latte art, or beyond, we’ve got you covered.
During your session, you’ll work closely and one-on-one with a DOCR Certified Coffee Educator. They'll tailor the session based on your experience and goals. Together, you’ll identify areas of focus that may include espresso machine fundamentals, exploring new brewing methods, refining latte art technique, or developing your palate through guided tasting and processing identification.
These sessions are fully personalized, hands-on, and supportive. Our certified and skilled educators will be present every step of the way, offering clear guidance, thoughtful feedback, and practical tools to help you grow as a barista-in-training or coffee professional.
You’ll have full access to our educational resources, equipment, coffee, and milk during your lab time. We encourage students to bring a notebook for note-taking, any reference materials they already use, and any brewing equipment or methods they’d like to explore more deeply.

WHERE DO I GO FOR MY OPEN LAB HOURS?
How exciting — you're on your way to accessing our Training Lab at DOCR!
When it's time for your Open Lab Hours, just head to our Ferndale Cafe & HQ at least 5 minutes before your scheduled session. Once you arrive, step right up to our cafe's bar and let our baristas know you're here for an Open Lab Hours session. Once they alert our Education Department, you'll be taken to our Training Lab.
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the scheduled class are non-refundable. Failure to attend a class without prior notice (no-call/no-show) will also result in forfeiture of payment.
