We're dedicated to equipping our staff with the knowledge and skills required to excel in serving our communities through exceptional coffee practices. We are excited to announce that we've made our Training Lab at the DOCR HQ publicly accessible to coffee enthusiasts alike. Hone in on your skills and knowledge through our certified educators! IN THE LAB @ DOCR HQ

Our Training Lab is now open to the public for use our equipment, coffee, milk and more. This is a chance to sharpen your espresso preparation skills or get some reps on latte art! Are you training for a throw down or competition? Do you want the chance to use a Slayer espresso machine? Or do you just want some one-on-one time with our DOCR Education Department to hone in on your at-home brewing methods? We have Individual and Guided Training lab hours available for you to select from. To book a session, click here!

Latte Art

Learn how to steam milk and pour latte art like your favorite baristas! We offer beginner, intermediate, advanced and expert level classes.

Our next Beginner Level Latte Art Class is set for Sept. 28 from noon-2pm at our Ferndale Cafe + HQ Training Lab. Buy your ticket today!

Coffee 101

A broad overview of all things coffee from seed to cup, including what exactly decaf coffee is, processing methods and the roasting process.

Brewing Basics

We’ll teach you how to brew coffee through two different methods and the fundamentals of drip filtration and full immersion. We’ll hone in on tasting + flavor notes while comparing the two brew methods, as well as teach you our V60 Pour Over recipe.

Introduction to Espresso

What is espresso? Don’t worry — we’ll teach you that AND how to best prepare your puck to pull delicious espresso.

Coffee Varietals + Origin Analysis

There are many types of coffee plants grown in the world. We’ll teach you about coffee varieties and how it plays a part in sourcing our beans, the tasting experience, flavor notes and how to brew our coffee. We'll also do a deep dive into where coffee comes from and the specifics of how coffee came to be in that area.

Palate + Sensory Study

We'll spend time evaluating the tasting notes and other characteristics of coffee beans to judge their quality through fragrance, acidity, aftertaste, balance, body and flavor.

Roastery Tour

Get a tour of our roasting facility in Ferndale at our Cafe + HQ to learn about our process and operation. We'll roast coffee together, do a coffee tasting, and you'll go home with a bag of freshly roasted beans!
